DAVID LYLE

ARTIST STATEMENT, 2006

"My Paintings are inspired from found photos or discarded memories. By acting as both curator and painter, I sift through a vast array of amateur snapshots from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s found at thrift stores, garage sales, ebay auctions, and flea markets.

I feel that to find a lost photo and paint it, allows the photo to have a second life. By using black and sepia tones, I try to mimic their found photo authenticity, and give them a sense of nostalgia and memory.
